Basecamp :: Project Management Utopia

Basecamp - An Online Utopia
Well, all I can really say is, "Wow!"

I was desperate to find an online project management solution since I was pretty endeared to eProject from my years at Honeywell. However, eProject is very expensive & focused more on corporate solutions with hundreds of users, and at least as many projects. I'm pretty sure that it's dependent upon having your own server to run the software as well. So, definitely an enterprise solution.

My search was then focused on for a product that was:
  1. cheap,
  2. entirely web-based,
  3. not server installed requiring my time to support, and
  4. as always, it needed a nice user-interface.

Needless to say, I fell in love with Basecamp in about an hour, maybe less. It's got an incredible interface that is clean yet full of detail. The project tracking features make it easy to enter & control projects, yet are easy enough for my clientele to learn & incorporate into their routine.

In a matter of a day, I purchased the Personal plan allowing me to load up to 3 projects, and I was off & running. And in a matter of the last few weeks, I started enjoying the product so much that I upgraded my account to the Basic plan which allows up to 15 projects. I even stayed up uber-late one evening (4:00 am) just so that I could load up all of my ccurrent projects.

Most know that I'm very much an interface whore, and rarely do I find such a quality application that is hosted on the Web, and that can also grab my interest so quickly. If you end up trying it out, be sure to have a few hours in which you expect to get sucked into the product. Good luck!
